Expectations were high for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns entering the 2021 season. After making the playoffs for the first time in nearly two decades, anything short of a return trip would've been considered a disappointment.

And disappointment certainly greeted Browns fans, whose squad missed the playoffs as Mayfield struggled mightily this season. The fourth-year QB regressed in basically every important stat from 2020, partly due to the torn labrum he suffered early on in the season.

But despite the whispers that the Browns could potentially look elsewhere, it appears they're sticking to their Baker Mayfield-themed guns. That's according to the latest comments from GM Andrew Berry.

Via Cleveland.com:

“We fully expect Baker to be our starter and bounce back,” Berry said in a Zoom call with reporters on Tuesday.

“It’s easy to forget what we’ve seen with Baker over the past several years, obviously he had his most productive season in this offense under Kevin as early as last year,” the Browns GM said. “I think we’ve been with Baker for a long period at this time, we know his work ethic, we know his drive, we’ve seen him as a talented passer in this league and we’re looking forward to him getting healthy and continue to make improvements and expect him to bounce back next year.”

While it's not hard to call for a QB's head on a spike after a down season, actually pulling the trigger is often easier said than done. The Browns' number one overall pick hasn't lived up to the lofty expectations, but they're not cutting bait just yet.
