Baker Mayfield took Cleveland by storm when he replaced a concussed Tyrod Taylor in the second quarter of the Browns' thrilling 21-17 victory over the New York Jets. Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry “never doubted” Mayfield's prowess and heaped mountains of praise on the rookie quarterback, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

“Just the mentality, the attitude that he has always approached it since he stepped into this building,” Landry said. “Never doubted him. I don’t think there is a coach or a player in this building who has doubted him or felt like we were in a disadvantage when he came onto the field. That is something that you have to love about him. That is why he was the first pick. That is why he was the Heisman Trophy winner. You saw it tonight first hand. . . . He is special. He is really special. . . . He took advantage of the moment and the opportunity. We always have seen him make these plays. As far back as when the Baker Mayfield story had started, he has always made these types of plays. It is awesome to be a part of it.”

Mayfield entered the game with the Browns trailing 14-0 late in the first half, and he immediately led them to a field goal on his opening possession. From there, the No. 1 pick dominated the second half to lead Cleveland to its first win since 2016.

Mayfield completed 17 of his 23 pass attempts for 201 yards. While he didn't throw any touchdowns, he engineered two drives that found pay dirt.

Landry was a major beneficiary of Mayfield's entrance, catching eight passes for 103 yards for the game. Seven of those receptions came with Mayfield throwing to him. The two also hooked up on a two-point conversion, though this time it was Landry throwing to Mayfield on a trick play.

“We were on the sideline,” Landry said. “He comes to me and says, ‘Your ass better throw me that ball. No matter what.’ I said, ‘I got you.’ It is something that we have been working on for a couple of weeks. He was ready for the opportunity. There is something about the professionalism that he has brought. To not even have had repped that play before but still do it the way that he did it and be effective and tie the game up for us.”

While Browns coach Hue Jackson wouldn't commit to a starting quarterback for Week 4, it's obviously going to be Mayfield, so get ready for plenty of Mayfield-Landry connections in the future.
