Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey said recently that he’d consider hiring a woman to be Browns head coach. And in light of that, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Browns are interested in interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the job.

In a statement released by the Browns, Dorsey has responded to that report and denied that Rice has been discussed as a head coaching candidate.

“Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great leader, possesses the highest possible character and also happens to be a Browns fan,” G.M. John Dorsey said. “I have the utmost respect and admiration for all she’s accomplished and was honored to meet her for the first time earlier this season. Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed.”

There simply isn’t any logical sense for the Browns to consider Rice as a candidate. She is a 64-year-old with no coaching experience at any level whatsoever and is distinctly unqualified for the job.

With all due respect to Rice, the Browns would likely be just be wasting everyone’s time if they even brought her in to interview for a highly complicated role that she seems patently incapable of performing.

Despite what the report claims, everyone will just have to take Dorsey’s word for it that Rice is not actually in the running until he proves otherwise.
