The Cleveland Browns and John Dorsey traded running back Duke Johnson to the Houston Texans on Thursday morning. The trade came amid Johnson's request after the signing of Kareem Hunt, an addition to the Browns' roster which would hurt Johnson's amount of playing time. In return for Johnson, the Browns received a fourth-round pick in 2020 that can convey into a third if Johnson plays 10 or more games for Houston.

Browns general manager John Dorsey commented about the trade on News 5's preseason show on Thursday, to the Beacon Journal‘s Nate Ulrich,

I do want to wish Duke the best. With regards to that, we sat; we waited; we were patient; and at the right time, there was a deal on the table that we probably should have taken.

Dorsey noted that he is comfortable with his running back room highlighted by Hunt and second-year Nick Chubb. But, he won't stop improving his 53-man roster.

I’m very comfortable with what we have in the running back room right now, but what we do is we look all the time for all types of players. We will not rest until we find the best 53 we possibly can.

The Browns selected Johnson in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Miami. In Cleveland, the running back was utilized as a third-down ace. In 299 career rushing attempts, Johnson has tallied 1,286 yards, good for 4.3 yards per rush, while also recording five touchdowns. Through the air, Johnson career totals feature 2,170 yards on 235 receptions, an average of 9.2 yards per catch, with eight touchdowns.

To replace Johnson on the third-string, the Br0wns have second-year undrafted product Dontrell Hilliard.
