USC quarterback Sam Darnold caught plenty of flak for not throwing at this year's Scouting Combine. The decision initially seemed to backfire on him after it began to rain at USC's Pro Day.

However, Darnold's stellar outing seemingly solidified his status as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. According to SI's Albert Breer, the rain seemingly never was an issue to begin with:

USC staffer:Hey guys, the weather patterns show that it’s gonna start raining right when we’re getting ready to throw. So we’re gonna move everything around, and have you throw before it rains and then have the O-line/D-line workout in the rain.
Darnold: Why are we doing that?
USC staffer:Well, so you don’t have to throw in the rain.
Darnold, looking to Palmer: No, we’ll just throw in the rain, right?
Palmer: Yeah.
Darnold: Perfect. I don’t care if it rains. I’m trying to go to Cleveland.

Needless to say, Darnold's decision has ultimately worked out in his favor since he performed well despite the rain. The consensus now believes the Cleveland Browns will take him with the first pick. The former USC product has long been touted as a future top pick since before last season. Now it seems to finally have come to fruition.

However, that is not to say that Cleveland has completely ruled out the prospect of potentially going in a different direction. The Browns also have scheduled workouts with other top quarterback prospects such as UCLA's Josh Rosen and Wyoming's Josh Allen. The team also owns the fourth overall pick in the draft which means they may be able to acquire another top prospect in the draft as well.

Meanwhile, Darnold has also kept his options open after reportedly working out for the New York Jets and New York Giants.
