The Cleveland Browns made the move to fire head coach Hue Jackson eight games into his third year with the franchise that saw him drop 37 of out of his first 40 games at the helm for the franchise.

Cleveland had taken some steps forward this season with the decision roll with rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield grabbing a pair of wins, but it hasn't been one that has earned pull in the locker room toward Jackson. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Mayfield hasn't reportedly been affected by the team's decision to part ways with their head coach.

This gives a clear picture that Mayfield's relationship with Jackson wasn't exactly close between the two of them. It was more of a business-like standing that may have been more so with the Oklahoma product as he likely felt that this pairing would be a temporary one given the continued struggles of the franchise with him at the helm. Jackson had entered this season winning just one game over the last two years, which had already put him on the hot seat.

That said, this change should the team a chance to rest things a bit with their next hiring to bring in another head coach that could be more what they believe is needed to help push the franchise forward. It will more than likely be an offensive-minded coach that should be able to help progress Mayfield along in his development into what the franchise hopes will be a cornerstone player for them for the next decade.

The keys of the team are now in his hands, which should see the front office continue to make moves around him to provide him what he needs to take those necessary steps toward building a winner back in Cleveland that can compete for the playoffs and possibly further.
