The Cleveland Browns could be down to their final two choices in contention for the No. 1 pick. Those top two are both quarterbacks, but likely not the two that many expect.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, the Browns have potentially narrowed down their options to Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, who has surpassed USC’s Sam Darnold in their draft board.

Many experts still believe the Browns will draft Sam Darnold Thursday night, but sources say the Browns have cooled on the USC passer in recent days and that Allen and Mayfield have surpassed him.

Despite months of speculation linking Darnold to the Browns, Mayfield has gained steam over the last couple of days. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that Mayfield was “definitely” in play to go No. 1 to Cleveland.

Both Mayfield and Allen have their well-publicized flaws which have followed them during the entire draft process. For Allen, it’s been his lack of accuracy throughout his career. And for Mayfield, it’s been his height – he’s just around 6-feet tall – and maturity issues.

However, they do have their big strengths. Allen potentially has the highest upside out of any quarterback in the class due to his physical tools. Meanwhile, Mayfield is a proven competitor and strong leader who has a big fan in Browns draft consultant Scot McCloughan.

While Darnold is considered the safest among the top quarterback prospects, it seems more and more likely that the Browns are willing to roll the dice with one of Allen and Mayfield with their No. 1 pick. Although, there is still time left before the draft for one more twist to take place in this incredible saga.
