Dustin Poirier entered his main event match against Conor McGregor as the heavy betting underdog in UFC 257, and one bettor is trying to turn his winnings into much more with a Tampa Bay Buccaneers victory on Sunday.

One man made that bet at William Hill, and ended up earning $540,000 after Poirier knocked out McGregor in the second round. But instead of taking his winnings and calling it a day, the bettor apparently made another bold gamble, this time putting his money on the Buccaneers to beat the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

The bettor placed $500,000 on Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to win the NFC title game and advance to the Super Bowl, and would win $454,000 if they cover, but can also lose almost all their winnings if Tampa Bay falls to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. It seems that the bettor didn’t want to bet against Brady, who has 9-4 record in conference championship games from his time with the New England Patriots.

Rodgers, the likely winner of the MVP award this season, has a 1-3 record in the NFC title game, and will have the chance to enter the Super Bowl for just the second time in his career. But despite history favouring the Buccaneers’ quarterback, the Packers are playing as well as any team in the postseason entering the NFC Championship Game, including a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Rams’ top defense in the Divisional Round.

Nevertheless, the bettor still believed that Brady and the Bucs can get the job done and stop Green Bay on the road, and believed it so much that he was willing to bet $500,000 on it instead of walking away with his winnings from Poirier’s stunning victory over McGregor.
