Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin's availability has been described as a “50-50” chance of playing in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints despite having had finger surgery this past week, as per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.

Chris Godwin, who was also put in the concussion protocol earlier this season, suffered the injury on a fourth-quarter touchdown catch from quarterback Tom Brady in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders which ended on a 45-20 victory.

Doctors initially told the Buccaneers organization that the Pro Bowler could be ruled out for four to six weeks before he recently had the surgery on his fractured left index finger. After the operation, the doctors eventually adjusted their projections to one to two weeks which leaves the door open for Godwin's possible return in Week 9.

The former Penn State standout was already ruled out for the Bucs' upcoming encounter against the New York Giants for Week 8's Monday Night Football proceedings.

Godwin's extended absence will force the Buccaneers to lean more on the productivity of newly-acquired receiver Antonio Brown who was recently signed to a one-year, veteran-minimum deal. According to Schefter, the seven-time Pro Bowler's politeness, energy, and work ethic have been noticeable to all, and that he is anxious to recast his image and reputation.

Brown's change in mindset serves as an encouraging sign of good things to come for the Buccaneers moving forward. The team won't be dealing with unnecessary drama while also getting a high-caliber production from the 11-year veteran.

The mercurial receiver is expected to make his debut in Week 9 hopefully together with Godwin's looming return from injury. The Buccaneers will need all the help they can get as they aim for a statement win against division rival Saints.
