The saga of Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive Jason Pierre-Paul has been one for the ages this offseason. After being involved in a car crash on May 2, it originally appeared the defensive end wouldn't miss much time while recovering. Then, he needed surgery.

Then he didn't.

Then, well, I guess we still don't know.

The Buccaneers aren't planning on having him back until then, but really aren't trying to put an official time table on it either.

If he does need surgery, the process would effectively end Pierre-Paul's season, which is why he has, so far, held out hope he can recover on his own. Without it, Pierre-Paul faces a reported five to six-month recovery process, which would put him back in October, at the earliest.

I would think so, just to be safe and not rush it,” Arians said via the Tampa Bay Times. “And knowing him, he’s one of those fast healers, so. I hate to put a time limit on it, but the earlier the better. As long as he’s healthy.”

Paul lost control of his Ferrari in wet conditions on I-95, striking a concrete barrier near Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at around 2 a.m. last month.

Of course, Pierre-Paul has overcome significant medical hurdles before. He lost a finger and part of a second one in a fireworks accident on July 4, 2015 but still played in eight games that season.

Last year, Pierre-Paul had a team-best 12.5 sacks last season, his first with the Bucs after playing eight years for the New York Giants.
