The Tampa Bay Buccaneers stole the spotlight of the 2022 NFL Offseason when Tom Brady announced his return to the league. Now, the team is reinforcing Brady's offense. Wide receiver Breshad Perriman, a Buccaneers free agent, agreed to a one-year deal with the team.
NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted the news Wednesday morning.
This is great news for Tampa Bay, but Brady in particular. Perriman joined the Buccaneers' practice squad in November of 2021 and was promoted to the active roster in December. Shortly after, he caught Brady's overtime, game-winning touchdown pass in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills. The play also happened to be Brady's 700th touchdown pass.
Perriman made an appearance in five regular season games for the Buccaneers in the 2021-2022 season. The 28-year-old recorded 11 receptions for 167 yards. The clutch Week 14 overtime catch was Perriman's only touchdown of the season.
Perriman is entering his eighth season in the NFL continuing his second stint with the Buccaneers. He began his career with the Baltimore Ravens from 2015 to 2017. Perriman spent 2018 with both the (now known as) Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns. He first joined the Buccaneers in 2019, before spending time with the New York Jets (2020), Detroit Lions (2021), and Chicago Bears (2021).
The clutch wide receiver was one of many free agents available out of Tampa Bay. Tide end Rob Gronkowski, Brady's right-hand man, is still a free agent hours before the beginning of the 2022 League Year.
