The Milwaukee Bucks made a salary-relief move by waiving center Spencer Hawes after using the stretch provision on Thursday night to spread the balance of his $6.2 million salary over three years, easing the full salary-cap hit on the franchise for this upcoming season, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 29-year-old was initially traded to Milwaukee in a deal with the Charlotte Hornets prior to the trade deadline. The 7-footer is slated to become an unrestricted free agent once he clears waivers in the next few days.

A rare three-point-shooting center, Hawes averaged 8.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game through his 10 NBA seasons. The often ponytailed big man has played with the Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, L.A. Clippers, the Hornets and Bucks throughout his tenure.

His services could be useful for teams lacking frontcourt scoring or in need of a shooting big man to hoist from outside and spread the floor coming off the bench. Teams like the New Orleans Pelicans and the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking for three-point shooters at the moment.

Milwaukee is now $2.5 million under the tax threshold with 13 guaranteed contracts, two short of the full roster limit prior to the start of the 2017-18 season.
