The NBA All-Star festivities are usually a pretty chill occasion for players attending. However, a new format for the Rising Stars Challenge paved the way for some competitive matches. However, for Chicago Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu, the competitive games brought forth an unfortunate result.

After the game, Ayo Dosunmu revealed that he suffered a thumb injury during one of the Rising Stars games. However, the Bulls rookie said that either way, it felt good to be recognized by his peers and the media. (via NBC Sports)

“It feels good to be recognized. But also I understand that there’s more work to do. This is just a stepping stone. I’m excited, I’m humbled to be here, and I’m thankful. But I also understand there’s work to be done. I still have that chip on my shoulder. And I’m excited to keep working.”

Dosunmu suffered a jammed thumb while contesting a layup attempt from his opponents. The Bulls rookie suffering that injury speaks to the success of the new rules in making the games more competitive. However, a player suffering an injury in what is essentially an exhibition game is less than ideal for the team.

Of course, that doesn't mean that making All-Star games more competitive is a bad thing. Bulls fans (and really, all NBA fans) can agree that this was an exciting day of basketball. Considering that the first day of ASG is usually rather slow and uninteresting, it's a big step up for the league.

Hopefully, Dosunmu gets cleared from any major injuries. The rookie has been integral to the Bulls' monster season, and him missing games due to injury would be a shame.
