The Chicago Bulls have been having a lot of trouble dealing with COVID-19 recently, as multiple members of the team have been placed under the NBA's health and safety protocols for the virus. So far, five Bulls have been placed under the health and safety protocols, namely: DeMar DeRozan, Matt Thomas, Coby White, Javonte Green, and most recently, Derrick Jones Jr. These five names have taken a huge chunk out of the Bulls rotation, most notably with regard to forwards (Jones Jr., DeRozan, and Green) and guards (Thomas, White, Green). Unsurprisingly, the Bulls have acquired the talents of Alfonzo McKinnie, a G/F from the G League's Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico, are the Capitanes of Mexico City.

McKinnie was last seen on the Los Angeles Lakers from 2020–2021, before he was waived and moved on to the G League. Before the Lakers, McKinnie was also with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and the Toronto Raptors. Notably, McKinnie suited up for the Chicago Bulls' G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, from 2016–2017.

Most recently, McKinnie has been playing excellently for Capitanes, logging 24.1 points per game, on 43.3% from the 3-point line. Shams Charania broke the news concerning McKinnie to the Bulls via Twitter:

While McKinnie is a veteran presence in the league, he has largely held roles that were not of the greatest impact to the NBA teams he has served on. However, this is untrue for him time on Capitanes, as his stats point to him being an excellent shooter and a prolific scorer. Whether or not McKinnie brings similar levels of production to the Bulls is unknown, but the depleted Chicago lineup needs anything it can get.
