The Chicago Bulls are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now. However, it looks like the 4-0 Bulls are set for some serious trouble after it was revealed that star guard Zach LaVine had sustained a tendon tear on his left thumb.

LaVine has been nothing short of spectacular for Chicago, and losing him for a significant period could lead to catastrophic results for the Bulls. Nevertheless, it looks like LaVine will choose to play through the injury if the medical team permits it:

“I don't know yet,” LaVine said when asked if the injury could worsen if he attempts to play through it, via Rob Schaefer of NBC Sports. “I think right now its just trying to figure out how to manage the pain and keep it safe, and then going forward I'll get more information on it if i plan on playing with it.”

LaVine isn't the type to sit out multiple games due to minor injuries, so if this thumb issue actually keeps him out then it would be safe to assume that it's serious. The Bulls guard also acknowledged that missing time is now a distinct possibility for him:

“Yeah,” he said when asked if him missing games has been discussed. “Obviously I don't want to put myself in any danger, I don't have all the information on it yet. We'll see how I feel tomorrow, and going from there.

“You know me, I try to play through everything. If I'm able to, I will. If not we'll see how it goes.”

Nevertheless, LaVine is hopeful that this setback will not have an adverse effect on the Bulls and what they've achieved early in the season:

“It's not discouraging,” he said of the injury blip. “I don't know how its going to affect me or the team, and I think we'll be OK either way. That's part of the game is injuries and you have to play with them. I wish it wasn't, but we'll know how to manage it.”

In four games played to start the campaign, LaVine has averaged 25.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per contest. He's also shooting a career-high 3.0 triples on a red-hot 44.4-percent clip. Needless to say, the Bulls star is playing some of the basketball of his career right now, and it would be a total buzzkill if an injury gets in his way.
