The Chicago Bulls have officially matched the Sacramento Kings contract offer for Zach LaVine, which means LaVine will be in the Windy City next year. It appears however that LaVine thought he might actually be heading to the Kings, and had doubts if the Bulls would match the offer.

According to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, LaVine told Harry Giles that he thought he would be joining him on the Kings.

LaVine will be back with the Bulls on a four-year $78 million deal. The Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson said he is excited to have him back.

“We were excited last summer when we got a dynamic athlete in Zach LaVine through the trade, and we’re excited now that we get to keep him,’’ Paxson said in a statement via the Chicago Sun Times. “Zach showed a relentless work ethic in rehabbing his ACL injury to return to the court, and he has a visible passion for the game of basketball.

“We know that those attributes, along with his honed skills, will make him an impact player in this league for years to come. We’re thrilled to keep Zach on this Bulls team moving forward.”

Before free agency started there were reports that the Bulls only wanted to play LaVine about $12 million a year, but it appears they decided he was valuable enough to keep.

He was the star return for the Bulls last summer in a trade that saw Jimmy Butler go to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
