The Chicago Bulls have made veteran center Robin Lopez available via trade, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.
The Bulls are in rebuild mode and have been playing rookie center Wendell Carter Jr. more minutes than Robin Lopez. The 30-year-old Lopez is making $14.4 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.
One name to file away here: Chicago’s Robin Lopez. The Bulls have made Lopez available via trade along with the former No. 2 overall draft pick Jabari Parker, according to league sources, but moving the experienced center isn’t so simple given his $14.4 million salary.
In 27 games this season for the Bulls, Robin Lopez is averaging 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 53.4 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from beyond the arc and 72.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Teams in need of a big man who can rebound and protect the paint could use Robin Lopez. The Bulls are probably looking for draft picks and expiring contracts in return for Lopez, who has career averages of 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds in 719 NBA games with the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks and Bulls.
Chicago is 9-25 on the season, 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
