Chicago Bulls fans hoping for head coach Jim Boylen to be fired will have to wait until the new leading front-office executive is hired.

Per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, Boylen’s future will be determined by this new hire the Bulls are planning to make:

Similarly, Jim Boylen’s future will be determined by this new hire, a source said. Boylen has support from Reinsdorf and executive vice president John Paxson, who is expected to remain with the organization in an advisory role.

As has been previously reported, Reinsdorf is hopeful the new head of basketball operations is open-minded on Boylen but that a desire to hire his own coach wouldn’t be a dealbreaker.

Since taking over for Fred Hoiberg, Boylen has gone 39-84 in 123 regular-season games with the Bulls. He had a mutiny on his hands last season when players decided not to practice, and then he got into a spat with star shooting guard Zach LaVine this season after benching the high-flyer in the first quarter in a game at home against the Miami Heat.

Bulls fans have heckled Boylen at the United Center repeatedly. VP John Paxson likes Boylen, though, even giving him a contract extension before the 2019-20 season started. Ownership is also in Boylen's camp.

The Bulls were only 22-43 before the COVID-19 suspension, which put them in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

If you asked Bulls fans who they want to be fired first between Paxson, Boylen and Gar Forman, the answer might be Boylen.
