It looks like the Lonzo Ball sweepstakes are nearly coming to an end. The Chicago Bulls as reportedly the clear frontrunner for the incoming fifth year guard's services with a contract to follow soon.
Via ABC Chicago's Marm Schanowski:
Watching NBA TV’s free agency special. Well respected Chris Haynes reports unless there’s a major “hiccup”, sources tell him Lonzo Ball intends to work out a contract with the Bulls. Pelicans are going hard after free agent PG Kyle Lowry.
The Bulls have been tied to the former number two overall pick all season, with their pursuit intensifying as the free agency period loomed. Their persistence appears to have paid off, as Lonzo Ball is buying-in barring any shocking change of heart.
The backcourt fit with All-Star Zach LaVine should definitely get Bulls fans excited. With Ball serving as a top-shelf defender, they can deploy him on the opposing team's best backcourt scorer. That leaves LaVine more free rein to operate on offense. Ball is also a considerably better playmaker than Coby White at this point in their careers, averaging 6.4 assists for his career.
Until pen gets to paper, this isn't a done deal just yet. But Lonzo Ball in a Chicago Bulls uniform sounds pretty darn good.
