The Dallas Cowboys have plenty of decisions to make this offseason. The Ezekiel Elliott saga was handled before the start of the season, but there is plenty more drama. Dak Prescott is still without an extension and could be franchise tagged. There are two other big name players heading to free agency in Amari Cooper and Byron Jones.
It is becoming more likely that the Cowboys are going to let Jones and Cooper walk. If that is the case, Jones will be highly sought after in free agency. At 27 years old, Jones is one of the top cornerbacks available. He has missed just one game during his five-year career in Dallas. Jones is a shutdown corner that can lead a secondary and that is something that many defenses need.
Here are the three best landing spots for Jones.
3. Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are a team in need of good players. They are moving to Vegas in 2020 with one of the worst defenses in the league. Jones is a really good player that would help them improve immediately. The Raiders have a ton of cap space available, so that would allow them to open the checkbook for Jones.
Oakland did not make many changes to their defense from 2018. They will need to do more in 2020. Jones ranked second in the league with 0.39 yards per coverage snap in press at outside corner.
2. Washington Redskins
This is a new look organization in Washington. Bruce Allen is finally gone and they have a head coach to be excited about in Ron Rivera. Most importantly, the Redskins have brought in a defensive coordinator that can make an impact. Jack Del Rio is taking over a unit with talent and just has to put it all together.
The Redskins have a chance to draft Chase Young to pair with Montez Sweat on the outside edge. They feature Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen on the inside. Reuben Foster will be returning from a torn ACL to lead the linebackers. Washington's corners need help.
Josh Norman was benched during the season. That leaves Quinton Dunbar as the only No. 1 option. Adding Jones would bring depth to the position and round out the defense. The Redskins are another team with cap space heading into free agency.
1. Houston Texans
It seems as though every season, the Texans are a team that finds their way into the playoffs, but never makes any noise. This is because they have a mediocre defense. J.J. Watt has carried Houston's defense for years, but outside of him, there is not much to be happy about.
Jonathan Joseph and Bradley Roby were the top two corners for the Texans this season. They will both enter free agency and that is no big loss. Now, Houston just has to replace them and Jones is a great place to start. He might be more expensive than they want to go, but he is a top corner available and could propel the Houston defense to the next level.
