After spending a notable nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, A.J. Green elected to sign with the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason on a one-year deal worth $8.5 million.

Green spent the vast majority of his career in Cincinnati being the No. 1 receiver, whether it was under Andy Dalton or Joe Burrow last season. The veteran wide receiver often shined in this role, which helped him earn seven Pro Bowl selections.

Now, Green will join a Cardinals team that will not call upon him to be the main receiving threat on a game-by-game basis, as star wideout DeAndre Hopkins currently holds this role.

As Green recently revealed, this is not at all a concern for him, as he aims to do what he can to put the team first and bolster what is already a formidable Cardinals receiving corp.

“I’m always team-first,” Green said. “When I was the guy in Cincinnati for 10 years, I always wanted another guy. I have Tyler Boyd and we had Marv Jones. We had some great guys. My thing is, I don’t want to be forced the ball and here, I don’t have to be forced the ball.

“You’ve got Hop on one side, you’ve got me on the other and you’ve got (Christian) Kirk working the middle. It creates a lot of matchups and that’s why I picked this place.”

Green is coming off of what was statistically his worst season in the NFL, as he posted career lows in receiving yards (523) and receiving touchdowns (two) over the 2020 campaign. Most notably, he failed to notch a single 100-plus receiving yards game over the course of the season.

As the spotlight for opposing secondaries will remain on Hopkins, Green is well expected to flourish with the Cardinals this season. He still has the prowess to be one of the more efficient route-runners in the league and can pose a threat in the deep passing game, which should open up the Cardinals' offense a bit more for the mobile Kyler Murray.

Green will once again hit free agency next year, so he will surely look to make the most out of his upcoming run with the Cardinals.
