The Arizona Cardinals are looking to protect their two-game lead in the NFC West when they host the Los Angeles Rams for a primetime Monday Night Football showdown. The Cardinals were hoping to get some reinforcements in the backfield ahead of the Week 14 clash in the form of Chase Edmonds, but NFL insider Field Yates reports that won't be the case just yet.

Per Yates, the Cardinals did not activate Edmonds before Monday night's rivalry game, meaning the running duties will once again fall heavily upon the shoulders of James Conner.

While it would have been a boost to get Edmonds back, Conner has proven more than capable of handling the workload of a workhorse running back. On the year, Conner has 166 carries for 690 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. Since Week 3, Conner has failed to score in just two games for the Cardinals this year, providing stability in the backfield amid Edmonds' absence.

Rams fans will surely remember Conner punching in two touchdowns against them in Week 4, and will be hopeful to avoid a similar showing from the 26-year-old on Monday night.

Edmonds has been dealing with a high ankle sprain that saw him placed on Injured Reserve. He hasn't played since Week 9, but was effective when working in tandem with Conner. On the year, Edmonds has 76 rushes for 430 yards and one touchdown, along with 30 receptions for 211 yards.

Edmonds' next chance to play will come in Week 15 when the Cardinals travel to Detroit to take on the Lions, but for now it will remain the James Conner show in Glendale.
