With the 2018 NFL season coming to a close, the future of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has been brought to the forefront. It appears he still has yet to make a decision.
There has been plenty of speculation regarding Fitzgerald's status beyond this season. According to Bob Baum of the Associated Press, he is just focused on getting a win versus the Seattle Seahawks:
“I haven't even thought about it,” Fitzgerald said after the Cardinals practiced on Thursday. “I'm just focused on trying to get this win in Seattle.”
Fitzgerald's decision to play coy is certainly understandable. It is no secret that he has contemplated retirement over the last couple of years. He was adamant about helping to turn things around in Arizona. The Cardinals responded by having to essentially clean house and are now in the midst of a grueling rebuild.
Fitzgerald endured a down year in terms of production after registering just 65 catches for 698 yards and five touchdowns. However, his numbers are indicative of an Arizona offense that ranked dead last in the NFL this season. Despite their struggles, there is no question that the Cardinals would welcome him back with open arms. Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has already voiced his desire for Fitzgerald's return.
Regardless, it is clear that the veteran is looking to end this season on a high note. Fitzgerald needs just 14 yards to become only the second player in NFL history to record 2,000 career receiving yards against three different teams. Sunday will also mark his 234th career game with the Cardinals, which ties him with kicker Jim Bakken for the most in franchise history.
