Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson is set to remain with the team until the remainder of the season. Peterson had previously requested a trade from Arizona due to their disappointing start to the season. However, he has since re-committed to the Cardinals after meeting with the team's higher-ups, who talked him into staying put.

But had the Cardinals simply granted Peterson's request for a trade, there was a good chance they could have come away with quite an impressive haul for the All-Pro cornerback.

Per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

Arizona was staunch in not dealing All Pro corner Patrick Peterson despite the abundance of interest in him and the flailing team facing an inevitable rebuild, but they may come to regret it. League sources said several contenders were willing to offer substantially more than a first-round pick for Peterson and, had they held an auction before Tuesday's deadline, it is not out of the question they could have received multiple first-round picks for him.

Peterson was widely viewed as the star of the trade deadline and could truly make a difference for a team that's looking to contend for a Super Bowl. While Peterson eventually denied his requests for a trade, the Cardinals are nowhere close to sniffing a playoffs spot and are looking at a rebuild next season.

That rebuild could have been significantly aided by those high draft picks they likely would've gotten for Peterson. But the Cardinals refused to go that route, which is a decision they may end up regretting in the near future.
