The David Johnson experience may finally be over for the Arizona Cardinals with talk of the team ready to move on from the star running back.

Johnson is scheduled to earn $10.2 million in 2020, with the entire amount guaranteed on the third day of the league year. But Johnson's production continued to dwindle in 2019. He ran for just 345 yards, caught 36 passes for 370 yards and was benched throughout the season in favor of Kenyan Drake. While it's not a guarantee that the Cardinals will bring back Drake, Johnson probably will be a casualty of his production and contract going in opposite directions

Johnson was once considered to be the future face of the Cardinals. However, he's played horrendous over the last few seasons. In 2018, he had a disappointing season rushing for 994 yards on 258 touches. Last season, he recorded 715 total yards and six touchdowns and was benched at the end of the season.

Johnson signed a three-year, $39 million extension in 2018 is expected to be owed $10.2 million in 2020. He'll carry a $14.25 million cap hit in 2020 and the Cardinals will be stuck with $16.2 million in dead money if they decide to cut him.

Nonetheless, Johnson is only 28 years old so it'll be easier for the Cardinals to trade him this offseason. Johnson is arguably still a talented player, however, the Cardinals may not be the best fit for him.

The Cardinals will most likely resign running back Kenyan Drake this offseason. Drake played outstanding with the Cardinals rushing for 643 yards and scoring eight touchdowns. The 25-year-old could expect to earn a four year, $25 million contract this offseason.
