Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has reportedly requested a trade from the team before next week’s trade deadline. And according to his cousin, former Pittsburgh Steelers corner Bryant McFadden, the All-Pro Cardinal has an ideal landing spot in mind: the New Orleans Saints.

After a somewhat rocky start to the season, the Saints defense has played more like the unit that impressed so much last season. They’ve won five games in a row and have allowed 23 points or fewer in four of those five games.

Peterson’s addition to the Saints secondary would only improve that unit even further. Moreover, the Saints would suddenly have arguably the best 1-2 cornerback duo in the league with Peterson playing opposite second-year corner and reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Marshon Lattimore.

With Drew Brees’ window to win another Super Bowl closing, the Saints are expected to be one of the most aggressive teams in the trade market before the deadline. They are searching for more help at cornerback, and they won’t get anyone better than Peterson.

Despite Peterson’s desire to be dealt, though, Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks has reiterated team president Michael Bidwill’s stance that Peterson is not getting traded. And even if they did trade him, they will likely do so to the highest bidder and won’t be under any obligation to send Peterson to his preferred destination.

But if Peterson were to somehow end up in New Orleans as he wishes, he could just be the missing piece that makes the Saints a top Super Bowl contender this season.
