Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James may have churned out one of his best years as far as individual play goes with averages of 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 54 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from 3-point territory. But the Cavs forward has been just as impactful off the court.

As such, his fellow players made their voices heard by selecting him as the recipient of the National Basketball Players Association's The People's Champ award.  This special citation recognizes a player's contributions to society, making full use of his power and influence to make a positive change in the community.

Such off-the-court activities by James is already common knowledge to NBA fans. He's been active when it comes to issues hounding society, lending his voice in hopes of knocking some sense into the minds of those that are astray. In fact, he is a finalist for the NBA Care Community Assist award.

The LeBron James Family Foundation continues to do its part up to this day. A few months ago, in the aftermath of the tragic Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, James was very vocal in advocating for gun control. Furthermore — and James has been very consistent with this ever since — he has never been shy in expressing his disdain for issues that undermine racial equality.

The four-time Most Valuable Player isn't expected to tone it down anytime soon. Instead, he'll continue to stress the importance of athletes using their platforms as agents of change for the better.
