The Los Angeles Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert will be making his first NFL start on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Tyrod Taylor has an apparent chest injury, an obvious nod to Herbert receiving the starting job against the Chiefs. The rookie was selected sixth overall by the Chargers in the 2020 NFL Draft and could have a huge opportunity to showcase his stake in the league. Herbert enjoyed a successful career with the University of Oregon after being named the MVP of the Rose Bowl in his final year there.

However, after training camp, Taylor was named as starting quarterback, completing only 53.3 percent of his passes in Week 1 with a 75.4 percent passing rating. Taylor may be seen in limited action today as he was seen emerging from the tunnel.

The injury came last-minute during warmups, which prompted the start for Herbert, who has already scored his first rushing touchdown early in the first quarter.

How the Chargers will respond upon a successful outing for Herbert remains to be seen. The result may be with Herbert starting, especially depending on the severity of Taylor's chest injury. Taylor served as the backup to Philip Rivers last season, in which Taylor only completed four passes on six attempts in eight games. The 31-year-old veteran may have a difficult challenge in showing up the rookie in the event he has a dramatically impressive game.

The Chargers will look to improve to a 2-0 record following a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.
