There has been a growing expectation that the Los Angeles Chargers could be without the services of star defensive end Joey Bosa in Week 1 due to a foot injury that arose during training camp. That was confirmed on Friday afternoon by Jack Wang of The LA Daily News.

Things appeared to be trending toward Bosa being inactive for Week 1 action against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he was seen walking around the practice field on Friday with a walking boot on his left foot. There hasn't been any clarity as to what Bosa is dealing with, but it became an issue in early August. Initially, Los Angeles didn't expect him to miss a lengthy period of time.

Head coach Anthony Lynn revealed that Bosa is dealing with a new injury to the foot that he suffered on Wednesday. He is now deemed as week-to-week moving forward.

Bosa was able to participate in limited action over the last two days prior to Friday, which presented the scenario that he could play against the Chiefs.

The Chargers are likely taking a precautionary approach with Bosa given his importance to their defense as one of their primary pass rushers, as he and Melvin Ingram have become a formidable duo over the last couple of years.

Bosa has developed into a premier pass rusher after posting back-to-back double-digit sack totals in his first two seasons. He is also coming off a career-high 12.5 sacks with 70 tackles and four forced fumbles while playing in all 16 regular season games, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

The absence of Bosa will put more pressure on Ingram to provide a pass-rush presence upfront. He could be shifted to help create significant pressure on Chiefs second-year Patrick Mahomes, who is making his second regular season start on Sunday.
