The Los Angeles Chargers finally gave Melvin Gordon permission to seek a trade over the weekend. After a few quiet days, one team has reached out about a potential trade for Gordon per Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Since training camp, Gordon has remained away from the team to begin discussions on a new contract with the Chargers. On the other side, Los Angeles has made it known that they aren't willing to open talks with Gordon until after the 2019 season.

Therefore, the Chargers' Pro-Bowl running back has continued his holdout to either land a new deal or be traded somewhere that will pay him what he wants. With no deal in sight with the Chargers, Gordon's only chance in securing an extension will come in the form of being traded.

This year, Gordon is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make $5.6 million. Throughout this dispute, it seems as if Gordon is expecting to get a contract that puts him in the same range as the Todd Gurley's and the Le'Veon Bell's of the world. It remains to be seen if any team is willing to give in to his demands.

Over the past few seasons, Gordon has become a focal point in the Chargers offense with 1,079 touches in his first four seasons. The dual-threat running back's best season came in 2017 when he rushed for 1,105 yards and eight touchdowns.

Last season, Gordon missed four games due to injury and was replaced by Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson. In that four-game span, Los Angeles won all four games and were formidable offensively without him. That may be one reason that trade talks have been barren up to this point.
