For the third straight season, Chelsea came away on the losing end of an FA Cup final, as Liverpool had the last laugh on Saturday via a penalty shootout win.

This win for Liverpool comes months after it also claimed a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the 2022 EFL Cup Final. In the big picture, Chelsea has now picked up a mere one win from its last seven encounters against Liverpool.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Tuchel was asked on just what it would take for Chelsea to close the gap on Liverpool in the Premier League. As Chelsea will finish behind Liverpool in the league standings for the fifth straight campaign, Tuchel sees that the notable difference between the two powerhouse English clubs centers on consistency.

“I think we proved four times this season that we can produce peak performances to compete with them at this kind of level,” Tuchel said. “It showed in all results that we deserved and they could've gone in our way and could've gone in their way.

“The difference for me throughout the season is they can do it on Wednesday again, and then Saturday, and then Wednesday. And we struggle. They have the biggest squad available. … So this is what it is and this is where the gap comes. They can produce these kinds of performances more often.”

A season after winning the UEFA Champions League title, Chelsea will finish the campaign without having won any of the four major competitions.

The Blues will cap off league play with home contests against both Leicester City and Watford.
