Conor McGregor is interested in buying Chelsea Football Club from owner Roman Abramovich. The MMA fighter expressed his interest via Twitter Wednesday morning, shortly after Abramovich announced that it was up for sale.

He tagged the official Twitter account of Chelsea in his tweet, writing, “I wish to explore this.”

McGregor included the £3 billion price tag in his tweet, making it sound like he is set on paying the full price without negotiation. £3 billion equates to $4,013,835,000. That's a huge amount of money, can Notorious afford it?

The short answer is no, not right now. According to Daily Star, McGregor would have to compete in at least 40 events to earn enough money for the purchase. The potential Chelsea investor earns £20-£25m per UFC fight.

Ultimately, Abramovich decided to sell the club after owning it for nearly two decades because of the tensions between Russia and Europe. The Russian politician has a long history with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the aggressor behind the war in Ukraine.

In his statement released Wednesday, Abramovich said that he does not wish to be repaid any loans he granted Chelsea. Rather, all net proceeds from the club's sale will be donated to benefit the victims of the war in Ukraine. According to the statement, this includes “providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.”
