The return of Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire against the Cleveland Browns is starting to look like a clear long shot. This after the RB was listed as questionable prior to the game. The rookie also failed to practice on Thursday and Friday which is an ominous sign for his potential return, per NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport.

Edwards-Helaire last saw action in the team's Week 15 tilt against the New Orleans Saints where he produced 79 rushing yards on 14 carries. However, he sustained a high ankle sprain along with a hip injury in their encounter against the Saints. The Chiefs still managed to snag a 32-29 victory over the Saints despite the rookie's playing condition.

Due to his injuries, Edwards-Helaire was forced to sit out their ensuing games against the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers to close out the regular season. He had an extra week's worth of rest to recover since the Chiefs had a first-round bye but it still wasn't enough to get him back in time on the field.

His potential absence against the Browns could give more snaps to Le'Veon Bell and seldom-used running back Darwin Thompson who came out with a huge performance against the Chargers in Week 17. He generated 45 rushing yards on 14 carries and a scored touchdown for the Chiefs in a 38-21 loss.

The depth of the Chiefs' roster will be tested as they go up against a Browns lineup that is already at full strength after going through the Wild Card round without a handful of their team members.

Despite missing a key player in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs will still put their best effort on the field as they aim to get past a resilient Browns squad on Jan. 17.
