Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams has been sidelined since Week 12 due to a rib injury, but he returned to practice in a limited fashion on Wednesday, per the Chiefs' injury report.

Pegged by many as a breakout candidate this season, Williams has had a disastrous 2019.

While injuries have slowed Williams considerably (he also had knee issues earlier in the year), he has not been all that productive even when he has been on the field, as he has rushed for just 309 yards and three touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.7 yards per carry in eight games.

He did begin to show some signs of life before the rib injury, racking up 125 yards and a touchdown in a Week 9 win over the Minnesota Vikings and following that up with a 77-yard outing during a Week 10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Still, overall, Williams has been a fairly big disappointment in 2019.

The 27-year-old was supposed to be Kansas City's clear No. 1 back heading into this year after the release of Kareem Hunt last November, but the Chiefs' addition of LeSean McCoy in late August changed things.

Williams, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Miami Dolphins in 2014.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Dolphins, accumulating a total of 477 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground during his time in South Beach.

The Chiefs are 10-4 on the season and will take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.
