The Kansas City Chiefs experienced some turnover on defense this offseason. Fortunately, it appears defensive end Alex Okafor has made quite the impression on defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo has been impressed with what he has seen from his new players. According to Rachel Coltz of Fan Source Network, Okafor is among those that have stood out thus far:

“Well, a lot of them did actually,” Spagnuolo said. “We brought new players like Frank Clark, Tyrann Mathieu, a couple of new corners in, a couple of DBs, the D-line is great with players like Alex Okafor, who is a real good surprise, so hopefully we can mix and match all of those guys and come up with something good.”

This is certainly an encouraging update from Spagnuolo. The Chiefs ushered in some significant changes on defense this offseason. Regardless, expectations could not be higher in Kansas City after they fell short of the Super Bowl.

It is no secret that the offense outshined the defense significantly throughout the season. As a result, the Chiefs invested heavily on shoring up their voids with a few notable additions in free agency. Clark is among those expected to make an immediate impact in the 2019 NFL season.

Okafor finished the 2018 campaign with 36 tackles and four sacks while starting all 16 games for the New Orleans Saints. Despite his solid performance, they voided the remaining year left on his deal and he subsequently signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Chiefs. It is safe to say that Spagnuolo will be relying heavily on his new additions to beef up this group moving forward.
