New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is the latest notable player to test positive for COVID-19. Gilmore's positive test raised concern regarding whether or not the Kansas City Chiefs are at risk following their Week 4 showdown on Monday night.

Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes exposed himself firsthand by hugging Gilmore after the game. He admits that doing so was a mistake on his part given the restrictions placed by the NFL.

Via Nate Taylor of The Athletic:

“You just have to trust in the protocols and the process in place. It was a little bit of a mental lapse,” Mahomes said.”

This Chiefs-Patriots game was initially postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests for Cam Newton and Jordan Ta'amu. It was moved from Sunday Night Football to Monday Night Football once it was determined they were in the clear, but now Gilmore has also tested positive.

The Chiefs are taking solace in the fact that they have not produced any positive results since the 26-10 win. Regardless, it remains to be seen if it will stay that way. For now, Mahomes is doing what he can to at least abide by the league's precautions.

Among the NFL's most notable rules is the ban on postgame interactions. Unfortunately, it has become evident early on in the 2020 NFL season that players and coaches alike are having some trouble getting adjusted. As a result, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was forced to send out a memo warning teams that violations of the safety guidelines could result in potential forfeits of games.

Mahomes obviously has his own personal obligations to stay healthy with a pregnant fiancée at home:

Aside from that, his role as the face of the NFL carries plenty of weight during a time where the league has already suffered some setbacks amid the ongoing pandemic.
