The Kansas City Chiefs have bolstered their running game with the signing of Carlos Hyde. After a good start and poor finish to the season, the 28 year-old running back will hope to show what he can do in his new backfield.

Hyde is getting a warm welcome from the man that will be handing him the ball too.

Per Brooke Pryor of the Kansas City Star, Patrick Mahomes is excited to have the newest weapon join the squad.

“Tremendous talent, someone I think that could add another dimension to our offense in that backfield with Damien (Williams) and Darrel (Williams) and all those guys. I’m excited to have him on the team.”

It was a tale of two seasons for Hyde in 2018. He started with the Cleveland Browns, rushing for five touchdowns on 382 ccarries insix games. Then he was traded to Jacksonville, and he did not score in only 189 carries over eight games.

He just could not carve out the time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They traded for him because of the injury issues with Leonard Fournette, but by that point, TJ Yeldon was getting starting snaps. Then Fournette came back for a few games. It was tough sledding for Hyde.

With the anticipation of a healthy Fournette, the Jaguars cut Hyde loose and the Chiefs pounced on it. All that means is that Kansas City is getting a running back who has shown he can be very productive. He should see starting time with his new team.

Mahomes sees that he has a versatile new toy in his backfield, which is great because he is a versatile quarterback.

The Chiefs are filling up their roster with weapons to re-tool and win a Super Bowl.
