LeBron James isn't the only sports star refusing to pay for the Twitter blue check verification symbol. Kansas City Chiefs' star QB Patrick Mahomes echoed a similar sentiment on Friday. Chiefs' WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling asked Mahomes to “Pay the $8 for the guys” on Twitter. Mahomes replied by stating “Can’t bro i got kids.”

For those who may not be aware, on April 1st Twitter will be removing the blue check from accounts of individuals who previously received it for being “active, notable, and authentic” unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue. Patrick Mahomes seemingly doesn't want to pay the eight dollars for Twitter Blue, so he may lose his blue check mark.

It will be interesting to see how many notable public figures end up losing the verification badge. LeBron James and Patrick Mahomes can certainly afford to pay the eight dollars per month, but they may simply refuse to do so.

Nevertheless, it will still be easy to identify both of their accounts. After all, Mahomes has 2.4 million follows on Twitter, while LeBron has a whopping 52.8 million followers. But for many verified accounts that are not subscribed to Twitter Blue, this is something that could cause people to question their legitimacy.

Blue check mark or not, Patrick Mahomes will continue to prepare for the 2023 campaign after leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory this past season. He's the best quarterback in the game right now and has a chance to help Kansas City become a true dynasty moving forward.
