Per NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, the 2018 NFL MVP is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs had selected Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft. They even traded up to to the 10th overall pick to draft him. Andy Reid and company knew they had a special talent.

They even let Alex Smith go, trading him away for a third-round pick and cornerback Kendell Fuller. Their bet paid off immensely, as Mahomes is now the next generational quarterback on the scene.

This past season for the Chiefs, he threw for 5,097 yards with 50 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. His completion percentage sat at 66.0 percent. He also led the NFL in quarterback rating with an 82.0 overall output. He carried Kansas City to a 12-4 record. Unfortunately, they were knocked out in the AFC championship game by the New England Patriots.

Drew Brees came out of nowhere and proved again that he's one of the most underrated talents under the center of all time. Nobody expects his kind of production from a 40-year-old, putting him on a shortlist of successful quarterbacks at that age.

For the New Orleans Saints, the 40-year-old Brees threw for 3,992 yards with 32 touchdowns and only five interceptions. His completion percentage sat at a league-best 74.4 percent. He was but second to Mahomes in quarterback rating with an 81.9 total output.

Brees carried the Saints to a 13-3 record in the regular season. They made it all the way to the NFC championship, where they ended up losing to the Los Angeles Rams.
