Despite keeping relatively mum on his destination next season, there's belief among NBA circles that L.A. Clippers point guard Chris Paul could end up in a San Antonio Spurs jersey for 2017-18.

During an interview with ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz on his podcast on Tuesday, his colleague, Zach Lowe, prompted there is actual legitimacy behind the speculation that the nine-time All-Star can find himself in San Antonio next season.

“There's been a lot of rumblings about Chris Paul, and I think that's real,” Lowe said. “I think there's mutual interest there. I don't know how real it is given the Clippers can offer a gigantic amount of money and are also a really good team; and the Spurs, like I said, have no sort of cap flexibility to get there. I'm very curious about what they do this summer and who's on the team next year.”

Paul just turned 32 and could be looking to cash in big with what can be his last chance to pull off a lucrative long-term contract.

After being with the Clippers for six seasons, no other team can offer the 6-foot dynamo more money than they can — though it is yet to be seen if he will choose to re-work an old formula that hasn't produced many results, or take a considerable pay cut to seek a shot at a ring.

To make a run at Paul this offseason, the Spurs would have to move a few contracts to create cap space and add one of the NBA's elite at the point guard position.

Both San Antonio and Paul would have to make sacrifices to make this marriage work, but a combination of one of the league's most cerebral passers and the outright best two-way player in the league can be enough to make R.C. Buford salivate to flip the tables upside down.
