The Los Angeles Clippers went through one of their toughest seasons in recent history. After a major roster upheaval in trading away Chris Paul in the offseason and Blake Griffin midseason, there were a lot of question marks about the future of the franchise..

The Clippers also suffered an insane amount of injuries and, at times, head coach Doc Rivers was putting out lineups with G-Leaguu players. Through it all, the Clippers were able to win 42 games, nearly reached the playoffs, and it might have been the most impressive coaching job of Rivers career.

Even though they missed out on the playoffs for the first time with him as the coach, he was able to get his team to play hard every night even when his team was the less talented team on the floor.

Although a return next season for Rivers isn't 100 percent guaranteed, the expectation as of right now is that he likely will be back. In his exit interview with members of the media, Doc relayed that returning is something he wants to do.

“Honestly, it's a place that I've enjoyed being at, The enjoyment goes up and down all the time. That's just the way it goes. But I like the changes that we made and I like where we're headed.”

Rivers is signed through the end of next season and there are some discussions about a contract extension for a coach that has delivered the franchise 259 wins in six seasons.

The roster is young and there is a lot of talent to build around, especially with likely two lottery picks coming up in the 2018 Draft (if Detroit's pick lands in the top four, it goes to the Pistons). If DeAndre Jordan elects to opt into his player option, that is another key piece for the team. With the team also having cap space to spend this summer, it's really not surprising to see that Rivers wants to continue what he has already built in Los Angeles.
