The L.A. Clippers have signed guard-forward Jamel Artis to a partially guaranteed deal.

As reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 25-year-old Artis has inked a contract with the Clippers.

The 6-foot-7 Artis played 15 games for the Orlando Magic last season, averaging 5.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

He played four years at Pittsburgh before declaring for the draft in 2017. Artis was not fortunate to get picked, but he managed to land a partially guaranteed contract with the New York Knicks for the 2017 Summer League. Through five games, Artis logged in 8.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 18 minutes per contest.

After his stint with the Knicks, Artis signed a two-way deal with the Magic and spent some time with the team's G League affiliate, the Lakeland Magic. This summer, Artis joined the Kings for training camp but was waived earlier this month.

Given that the Clippers have a ton of players on their roster, Artis may have to fight his way to make the lineup that is already ridden with a bunch of wing players like him.

Several analysts believe that the recent signing could be in preparation for a trade package. Artis' addition now gives the Clippers 20 players on their roster, which means they need to cut three.
