Los Angeles Clippers consultant Jerry West selfishly wants to see his squad take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals if the 2019-20 season resumes at Walt Disney World and the league goes straight to the playoffs with the top 16 teams.

The Lakers would be the No. 2 seed and the Clippers would be the fourth seed if the NBA does in fact use the 1-16 seeding as its return-to-play format.

West thinks a potential Finals series featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George would be “the ultimate competition.”

“For me, that would be the ultimate competition,” Jerry West told Dan Patrick on his Show, via Kurt Helin of NBC Sports.

“I think in Los Angeles, they have so many Laker fans, my goodness. The enormous success that the Lakers have had over the years, they are a really good team now, two of the best players we’ve seen in a long time on one team. I think it would be incredible for the people in the west. I’m not sure how that would go over for the teams back east who want to see their respective teams get an opportunity to play.”

The Lakers were atop the Western Conference standings before the 2019-20 campaign was suspended due to COVID-19. Both LeBron and Davis were playing at an MVP level.

Meanwhile, the Clippers were in second place in the West and 5.5 games back of the Lakers. Leonard and Co. were 2-1 against James and the LakeShow, but The King got the best of the Clips in their most recent matchup.

The Clippers have never appeared in the NBA Finals, while James is searching for his fourth title after missing the playoffs in 2018-19 for the first time since his second year in the league. Basketball fans not just in Los Angeles are praying that games resume in July or August.

However, it's safe to say only residents of L.A. are hoping for a Clippers-Lakers Finals like The Logo.
