Following the devastating injury of Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant which will likely force him to sit out most, if not the entirety of next season, newly-crowned two-time Finals MVP winner Kawhi Leonard has emerged as unquestionably the biggest incoming free agent this offseason.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been rumored to be one of Kawhi's preferred destinations, and it appears that L.A. are holding their collective breath as they await Leonard's decision.

“Internally, they're hyperventilating right now,” said ESPN's Brian Windhorst about the Clippers. “I think Kawhi will give the Knicks a look. I think his decision will be staying with the Raptors, likely on a short deal, a one-plus-one deal. Or look at the LA Clippers where he can invest in going forward.”

There's quite a lot to pick up from Windhorst's statement here, who himself has proven to be one of the most reliable sources of breaking news in the NBA. For the Clippers, it seems that they have put all their eggs in the Kawhi basket, as they hope to make arguably the biggest free agent signing in the entire history of their franchise. Should they successfully lure Leonard to make the move back to his hometown of L.A., this should automatically propel the Clippers as championship contenders for next season — something that they have never achieved in the past.

It is also worth noting here that per Windhorst, the Knicks are also in the mix for Leonard, but that at the end of the day, Windhorst suspects that Kawhi will ultimately stick with the status quo and spend at least another season in Toronto.
