Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Patrick Beverley is one of Houston Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni's favorite players in the NBA.

D'Antoni coached Beverley with the Rockets for a few seasons before Houston traded the Chicago native to the Clippers in the summer of 2017 in the blockbuster Chris Paul trade.

D'Antoni spoke highly of Beverley on Wednesday before the Rockets-Clippers game, per Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic:

Patrick Beverley is one of the top one-on-one defenders in the NBA. He never backs down from a challenge and is always going to get in your face.

With the Clippers this season, Beverley is averaging 7.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. The 30-year-old is shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 39.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Clippers have already clinched a playoff spot. The success they have had this season has been one of the best stories in the NBA.

Last summer, Beverley said the Clips, and not the Lakers, were the best team in Los Angeles. It was a bold statement considering the Lakers had just signed superstar small forward LeBron James in free agency.

Fast forward to today, though, and Beverley was 100 percent correct with his prediction.
