The Los Angeles Clippers are still considering their options at the point guard spot given they plan to waive Isaiah Thomas, who was acquired as part of the trade that landed Marcus Morris.

Los Angeles are still hoping to make a play for retired guard Darren Collison should he decide to return to basketball. They might also scour the buyout market.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported the Clippers could be a suitor for Detroit Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson should he negotiate a buyout:

Jackson only just returned from a stress reaction in his lower back. He has played in 11 games for the Pistons, averaging 15.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds while shooting an even 40 percent from beyond the arc on 5.5 attempts per game.

A buyout might make sense for both the Pistons and Jackson. Firstly, Jackson's contract is up at the end of the season. Secondly, the Pistons are not in playoff contention, and Derrick Rose has emerged as a legitimate starting point guard in the Motor City. Detroit would also clear an extra roster spot, while Jackson would have the opportunity to sign with a contender.

The Clippers, meanwhile, are looking for more backcourt depth. Patrick Beverley has been reliable in the starting role, and Lou Williams leads the team with 6.0 assists off the bench. However, Rodney McGruder has been fairly disappointing in limited minutes, and the Clippers lack a singular guy that can come off the bench and run the point while also spacing the floor.

Jackson's future in Detroit is still up for grabs, but expect the Clippers to pursue a contract with the veteran guard, especially if Collison leans towards joining the Lakers.
