Why Baylor Could Cover the Spread

The Baylor Bears are 10-2 and currently 2nd in the Big 12. They have won six of their last seven games, having scored 20+ points in each. Their most recent victory was 27-24 at home against Texas Tech last Saturday. The Bears had chances to blow the game open; however, they did not convert in the red zone effectively and were held to three field goals. The Bears finished with 434 total yards of offense and controlled the clock for 37:26 minutes. The Bears defense forced two turnovers and held the Red Raiders to 16 first downs. The offense averages 30.5 points and 422.4 yards per game. They will be facing a stout Cowboy defense that allows 16.5 points per game, ranking 4th fewest in the country.

The Baylor defense ranks 19th in the nation in opponent points per game (20.5) and 12th in opponent rushes per game (32.5). Oklahoma State ranks 5th in rushes per game (46.2), so it will be interesting to see how the Bears rush defense fares against the Cowboys' ground attack. Baylor lost 24-14 when they played Oklahoma State earlier this season. They forced three Cowboy turnovers but could not produce much offense with only 107 rushing yards. In their last 11 games, the Bears are 8-3 against the spread.

Why Oklahoma State Could Cover the Spread

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are rolling this season, with an 11-1 record and 1st in the Big 12. They have won the past five games, averaging 40.4 points and winning by a 29.2 point margin. They are set to host the Bears in a rematch from earlier in the year. The offense revolves around quarterback Spencer Sanders, who has thrown for 2,211 yards and 16 touchdowns, and running back Jaylen Warren, who has rushed for 1,134 yards and eleven touchdowns. Oklahoma State averages 32.6 points and 412.4 yards per game as a unit. The offense has the capability of exploding for a ton of yards as they totaled 682 in their game against TCU a few weeks ago.

As good as the offense is, the Cowboy defense is one of the best in all of college football. They lead the nation in sack percentage (11.80%) and opponent 3rd down conversion percentage (23.72%). Oklahoma State ranks 7th in opponent pass yards per game (180.3), 5th in opponent rush yards per game (90.5), and 3rd in opponent total yards per game (270.8). In their last eleven games, the Cowboys are 9-1-1 against the spread.

Final Baylor-Oklahoma State Prediction & Pick

This game is going to be very fun to watch on Saturday at noon. Both teams have very explosive offenses and will be playing a rematch from earlier in the year. They have had time to prepare for one another, I am sure they knew that they would be facing each other awhile ago in the Big 12 Championship. This game feels like it will come down to a last second field goal for whichever team possesses the ball. Therefore, I am going to take the free points and have Baylor cover this spread.

Final Baylor-Oklahoma State Prediction & Pick: Baylor +5.5 (-114)
