Last season was year one of the Deion Sanders era for the Colorado football team. The Buffaloes got a ton of publicity, but they didn't really do anything on the field. After a 3-0 start, they surged into the AP top-25, but they lost eight of their last nine games to go 4-8 and finish in last place in the Pac-12. It was a bad year, and this season needs to be better. One Colorado alum, David Bakhtiari, thinks that the Buffaloes will make the College Football Playoff.

Making the College Football Playoff in 2024 is going to be easier as it expanding to 12 teams. In the four-team era, if you lost one game, your chances of making the CFP started to get slim, and if you lost two, then there was really no chance of making it. Now, teams can lose maybe even three games and still find a way in. It's going to be interesting to see, and David Bakhtiari thinks that Colorado football is going to make it.

“They’ll definitely make the playoffs, I think they should at least be in the Elite 8, I don’t know what they’re calling it, but they should be at least the final 8 teams,” Bakhtiari said during an appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast. “I mean I’d love for them to win it, that’d be one of the greatest turnarounds in a sports programs history.”

Bakhtiari is right, that would be one of the best turnarounds the sport has ever seen. This Colorado team hasn't been relevant in a long time, and they aren't expected to be very good this season. Making a bowl game would be huge for the Buffaloes, so it would be a shock to see them make it all the way to the CFP.

Colorado is making the move to the Big 12 this season, and that should help them as there aren't a lot of very good teams in the conference. Utah is expected to be the best team in the conference. There really aren't any national title contenders or any other playoff contenders that the Buffaloes will have to face in conference play.

Year one of the Deion Sanders era didn't go so well, but David Bakhtiari still believes in Deion Sanders. Sanders has done a good job of getting the Colorado football team in the spotlight, and now he just needs to find a way to win some football games. Bakhtiari thinks that Sanders can make the Buffaloes relevant again.

“Shoot when I was in college we only won 13 games in my four years, it wasn’t really known as a football school,” Bakhtiari said. “It was back in the 90’s, it was back in the late 80’s, 90’s up until the early 2000’s and then it pretty much fell off. I love the energy and attention that’s come back to it, I’d just love to see them win, but with the transfer portal and all this stuff, it’s really easy, and I think it was a perfect time for a guy like Deion and a place like Colorado to come to an agreement, I think they needed to do it. He’s the best chance for the program to become relevant again.”

The recipe is there for Colorado football to have a good season. The playoff is expanded and they have an easy schedule. Still, it would be a shock if they made it there. Getting to a bowl game would be a huge win.
