Colorado football star Travis Hunter was forced to exit Saturday's showdown with Colorado State after the dirty hit he received early in the game.

According to the latest updates, Hunter had to be brought to a hospital to receive emergency treatment, per Jake Shapiro of Denver Sports. No details about the nature of his injury have been revealed.

Hunter got injured midway through the first quarter of the contest after Colorado State defensive back Henry Blackburn delivered a late hit on him. Hunter fell to the ground, clearly hurt, and writhed in pain as his teammates and the training staff tried to nurse him.

Travis Hunter was able to return to the game after, but with the pain not subsiding, Colorado football made the decision to take him out and bring him to a hospital for further evaluation.

LeBron James, fans mad on dirty Travis Hunter hit

The hit to Travis Hunter quickly went viral, thanks to the controversial nature of it. Many fans were mad that Colorado State was only flagged for it when it was clear that it was targetting.

Among those disappointed with the hit and the officiating was Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who expressed his belief that it was a blatant targeting.

“Like I don't understand the difference between targeting and what I just witnessed. I've seen others get thrown out for far less. That was blatant and uncalled for IMO!” James said.

Several others had the same sentiment as LeBron, with sports reporter Jemele Hill noting, “I hate the targeting rule but how was 11 not ejected for targeting?”

“It's wild that Travis Hunter is in the hospital from a dirty hit and the player who caused it wasn't ejected,” a critic added.

Another one said, “Travis Hunter is out for the rest of the game after this dirty hit took place, player should have gotten ejected imo smh.”

More updates on Hunter's status should come in the next few days. Hopefully, though, the issue isn't as serious as it seems to be. The game aside, no one wants for any player to experience a significant injury that could affect their respective careers.
