It seems like it was just yesterday that the college football season ended as Michigan topped Washington in the national title game in Houston. When the game ended, the worst time of the year began for college football fans: the dreaded offseason. Nearly eight months without college football. It feels like it just started, but we have somehow already made it to May. The weather is getting warmer, and we are getting closer to football season. Spring football just concluded for Colorado football, and Buffaloes fans can't wait for the 2024 season to roll around.

Spring football is one of the best times of the college football offseason as a sense of hope comes to every fan base around the country. It's exciting to see your team in action in the first time, even though it's just a scrimmage. You started to see the roster taking shape and projected depth charts start trickling out. Spring football is the first sign of the season, and now that it's over, college football fans are really in the home stretch. The cold winter months are tough to survive without football, but the excitement that comes with spring football makes everything easier. There is still a ways to go before the new season, but it is coming.

This next season of college football is going to be an exciting one, and there are a ton of reasons to be looking forward to it. There are a lot of changes coming to the game like rule changes, coaching changes, conference changes and playoff changes. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the new season will be the new conferences. The Pac-12 is gone, and the Big Ten and SEC are going to be loaded. They both seem to be on the verge of forming super conferences.

The SEC will be welcoming Texas and Oklahoma to the conference next year, and the Big Ten is getting a good crop of Pac-12 teams as USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington are all joining the conference. Both the Big Ten and the SEC are going to be absolutely loaded next year, and it seems like more schools will potentially join the conferences in the future.

Next season, the College Football Playoff will look different as well as it is expanding to 12 teams. There will also be first round games on college campuses. More teams will have a chance to make the CFP, and there will be more games. It's going to be fun.

There is a lot of attention surrounding Colorado football right now

A lot of people have been talking about the Colorado football team this week because of some drama that has unfolded on Twitter. A story came out about a former player sharing his experiences about how he was treated when he was told to transfer away from the Buffaloes. Colorado quarterback and son of head coach Deion Sanders tweeted a response to the story saying that he didn't even remember the player, and that he was “mid.”

Some other Colorado players got involved as well, and then Deion Sanders did, too. However, most people expected a head coach of a power five college football team to put an end to behaviors like that. Instead, Sanders joined in.

After this all went down on Twitter, Sanders and Colorado football started to receive a lot of backlash. They don't seem to have a ton of supporters outside of their own fan base now, which is a big chance from what we saw at the beginning of the 2023 season.

The Colorado football team had all eyes on them last year with Deion Sanders in year one of being the head coach, and the team got a lot of positive buzz. However, there really wasn't much to celebrate if you're a Buffaloes fans. Sure, the beginning of the season was a lot of fun. Colorado rattled off three straight wins to start the year and they were ranked in the top-25, but it was all downhill after that.

After the 3-0 start, Colorado football finished the season 1-8 and finished in last place in the Pac-12. Deion Sanders created a lot of positives in his first season as the head coach of the Buffaloes. Ticket sales sky-rocketed, social media following shot up, but in terms of on-field results… there really wasn't much. Still, there was improvement record-wise from the year prior, and there is still reason for optimism if you're a fan of the Buffaloes.

This season is going to be a big one for Sanders and Colorado. Year one is over. Everyone will have their eyes on this program and they will be playing in front of full stadiums every week. It's time for the Buffaloes to find success on the field.

One thing that Sanders has been known for since coming to Colorado is his work in the transfer portal. He brings a lot of guys in, but a lot of guys leave via the portal as well. The Buffaloes lost a lot of players during the spring window, and here is one that hurts the most.

It's hard to pick which transfer hurts the Colorado football team as they have lost a total of 41 players this offseason. The biggest departure in the spring window, however, has to be cornerback Cormani McClain. Losing a starter is always tough, and this instance is especially bad for the Buffaloes because of how bad their secondary was last season.

Colorado had some good talent on their team last year but there were some parts of their game that held them back. The secondary certainly wasn't their biggest weakness, but it wasn't great by any means. The defense as a whole was an issue and the Buffaloes had a lot of trouble stopping just about every team that they played.

Cormani McClain was supposed to have a big year for the Buffaloes this season as he was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and he was top CB in that class. Losing him is brutal for Sanders and Colorado.

The Buffaloes did lose 41 players to the portal, but they also gained 35. We'll see if one of those guys is good enough to replace Cormani McClain.
